Hi all, especially . I’m Mike from Christchurch, currently living in Hokitika on the beautiful West Coast of New Zealand. A zoology/museums sort of person, these days I do a lot with Wikipedia and related projects. I was the NZ Wikipedian at Large 2018–19 and I’m vice-pres of Wikimedia Aotearoa.
I also like cats, knitting, field sketching, amateur entomology, giant extinct birds, native plants, and reading old-ish books. Currently teaching myself tablet weaving.

If movies taught me anything it's that in the 1980's there were apparently good careers to be had working in factories that produced sparks

It seems the world spark demand has gone down considerably since then

Since it came up in conversation this evening, I’m going to repost a link to this super cool article about a Polynesian navigator who came up with an ingenious way to combine his understanding of the tropical Pacific with European style map making: https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.1080/00223344.2018.1512369

Focaccia day! Trying out a new/far-from-new Kenwood Chef mixer. Have already had it bakesplained to me on Twitter that ACTUALLY you don’t have to knead focaccia, do not care to hear your opinion sir, “yum” is the correct response.

One of the joys of the fediverse is @tripofmice's monthly live blog of TeaTime Magazine, a magazine made for, well, mostly old lady tea enthusiasts
