Non-removable batteries and non-standard size mobile batteries anger me the most, because there are lots of perfectly functional devices that are abandoned just because they don't hold a charge any more.

The first mobile devices (like Walkmans etc) used to use standard replaceable batteries like AA size, so this never happened before.

If there could be some legally mandated standard mobile battery, we would have a lot less electronic waste and save a lot of money.

Re last boost: I’m not really convinced by the word ‘secret’ in this case but great work nevertheless. Though I’m intrigued about why they chose XML.

I'm looking for tooling (#Bash #Python #OpenRefine etc.) that processes Excel-formatted exports from Web of Science or similar into #DSpace-compatible CSVs.

Processing steps include: Renaming & subsetting columns, renaming to match #DublinCore fields, harmonising author names, retrieving missing info via #DOI-APIs etc.

Would be a neat programming lessons, but I'm looking for tried-and-tested code for production.

Please boost! 1k thanks for any hints 🙂 #Code4Lib #DataScience #LibraryCarpentry

Did you know that "git checkout -" works much like "cd -" and switches back and forth between two branches?

You're welcome.

The problem with learning to write software tests is now I’m finding all the bugs in my code 😭

pleeeeease stop referring to hypothetical software developers as "he" by default. if you quickly add "or she" afterwards you're still on my shitlist. we have a perfectly serviceable generic singular pronoun, "they" - use it

haha shit whoops guess who forgot to do the roundup and announce the August theme...?

Apparently having 1. already logged in to myGov, 2. already connected to the ATO (which means they know perfectly well who I am) and 3. provided all my medicare card details and the back account my account is linked to ...isn't good enough.

Why is the Australian government so fucking incompetent at online services? I can't register for medicare online because ...I can't complete the form asking what email address I have registered with Medicare (to the best of my knowledge, the answer is "I haven't")
